Before Michael Jordan captivated fans in the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest, he stood in awe.
A 24-year-old Jordan watched Bird hit eight of his AC Milan Cheap Jerseys final 10 attempts in the semifinal round, scoring 23 out of a possible 30 — all while wearing his Celtics warm-up jacket.
Jordan did not hesitate to offer his analysis on Bird’s choice of shooting apparel: “He didn’t take off his top yet. I’d hate to see it when he takes off his top.”
Bird decided against it and still managed to win the 3-Point Shootout.
This year has been a bit different: Golden State (44-14), enters the second half of the season a half-game behind the surging Rockets (44-13) in the standings. Houston has won 10 straight, while Golden State has lost two of its last three.
While there are plenty of games remaining for each team, the Rockets winning the season series with the Warriors means Golden State would have to finish at least one game ahead of Houston to earn this year’s one seed. The wild thought of the Warriors potentially opening a postseason series somewhere other than Oracle Arena is becoming more and more realistic.
The Lakers rookie will miss his 14th straight game Wednesday against the Pelicans but “definitely” expects to return from his left knee injury next Friday against the Cheap NFL Jerseys Mavericks in Los Angeles’ first game back from the All-Star break.
Ball, who will sit out the All-Star weekend’s Rising Stars game scheduled for Feb. 16, said he could play if his team were in the playoffs but instead will take the time to ensure he makes a full recovery rather than aggravate the injury further and risk missing more time.
“I didn’t think it was going to be this serious, to be honest. … There was never a timeline for it. It was kind of just a thing that came up. I thought it was going to be dealt with quicker, but obviously my body didn’t react to it that well. I should be back hopefully soon,” Ball said last week. “It’s pretty tough. This is the most games I’ve ever missed in my whole life. … Just doing what I can to be a good teammate and support them.”
Ball, 20, is averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 assists and 7.1 rebounds in 36 games this season.
